This portfolio recognizes organizations such as SLF and their subgroups including the Avalanche Warning Service who work with local mountaineers in the Swiss Alps to protect neighboring communities from hazards like avalanches. Together, they install protective measures, and research further strategies that could protect communities. This is a material form of folklore within an occupational group due to the paid workers who produce real materials and labor intended to prevent avalanches. Their efforts protect the communities surrounding the Swiss Alps and are adopted by other mountain communities, as well (Sims, et al., 2011).
